Why we chose Korea for adoption.

Several people have asked us why we chose Korea for our international adoption.  So, here it is:

We chose Korea for several reasons.  The birthmother's receive excellent pre-natal care and as adoptive parents we receive information about her health history (and if available, about the birthfather).  The children are then placed  in foster care and have great medical care, similar to the US.  Korea has a lot of boys in foster care and we are hoping for a little boy.  Another incentive for us is that we know other couples that have adopted from both Korea and China.  If something happens to Korea's international adoption program we will be changing to the China program, however, even though there are rumors that Korea's program is "closing" this does not seem to be the case.  We are very excited about the opportunity to adopt from any country but China and Korea have similar programs.  They require only one short trip to the country which is good for us because Greg has limited time off of work.  We looked into adoption from Eastern Europe but those countries require 2 trips anywhere between 21 days and 6 months- something we can not do.  The Korean and China programs also have adoption of younger children, infant-2 years, whereas most other countries have only older children.  We would like our second child to be younger than Kaeden, which is another reason we chose Korea.  For Korean adoption, they require that the child you adopt be younger than  the adoptive families youngest child that currently lives in the home.  I'm sure there are things I am forgetting, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.  If you are also interested in international adoption I would love to talk!
